A Must Do for everyone visiting Amsterdam is walking the city not only because it’s a great introduction to everything the city has to offer, you’ll also learn about the city’s history. Walking the city as soon as you arrive allows you to spot any intriguing restaurants or nightlife hotspots, and plan to maximize your time.

Take a Bike Tour

Traveling by bike is both hobby and exercise for the Dutch, they are ubiquitous in the city. You’ll notice there are quite a large number of bikes in Amsterdam and you see many people going about their business on their “feits” as they are called in the capital city. There’s practically no better way to enjoy Amsterdam and its environment than taking a bike tour. With a variety of tours available, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Amsterdam is famous for its many canals and a wonderful and relaxing way to enjoy the vibe of being there is taking a canal cruise. It does even possess the nickname, The Venice of the North, so we think this is something everyone should check out. Choose daytime cruises or a romantic night cruise. Other cruise options include the pizza cruise, hop-on-hop-off canal bus, sightseeing cruise and a cocktail cruise.

When is the best time to visit Amsterdam?

Amsterdam attracts tourists year round. However, the best season to visit Amsterdam is between May and August when the weather is at its friendliest. We’ve sorted Amsterdam’s best weather below.

May to August:  The weather is pleasant during this period. It’s important to take along sweaters as it evenings might get cold. In May, Amsterdam hosts the spring Tulip Festival. It attracts tourists to the city who travels to sight the breath-taking tulips in full bloom. This also provides ample opportunity to explore Amsterdam on a cycle, one experience you can’t afford to miss. June plays host to two of Amsterdam’s most popular summer festivals, the Open Garden Days and Roots Festival. Be sure to book your flights and hotels months before time as prices peak during this time.

September to November and March to April: During this period, hotel rates are relatively low. If you would like to visit Amsterdam during the offseason, this is the time to go. Nevertheless, there are plenty of things to be excited about when visiting Amsterdam during this period, including as Amsterdam Film Week.

December to February: Amsterdam’s coldest period, with regular snowfall, be sure to check out lake ice skating that’s popular this time of year. Pack warm layers so you can check out everything this winter wonderland has in store.
