There’s nothing better than a refreshing glass of rosé in the summertime, except for maybe the Instagram photo you take to make everyone jealous. At Must Do Travels, we love to drink rosé and love that it has its own special day called National Rosé Day. It falls on the second Saturday of June each year. Sad you missed it?! No worries, there’s always next year. And at least rosé is a summer wine … or any-time wine, depending on your palate.

Time to Cheers it up!

What’s all the hype about?

Rosé is presumably the oldest recognized type of wine, dating back as far as 600 BC in Greece. Back in the day, Greek traders came to France and the drink eventually made its way to Provence, France which is the region most famous for producing high-quality Rosé wine. Over time, this drink became increasingly popular in North America and the UK as it pleased the palettes of novice wine tasters and labeled as a low-quality beverage. In more recent years, winemakers looked to improve the quality and reputation by reverting to classical techniques to match the higher quality wines found in Province.

Where does the hype derive from?

Rosé exploded on the US market over the past few years, especially during the warm months of the year. In France, it now eclipses the sale of white wine. The popularity has been exponential and the phrase “Rosé all day” can be heard wherever you go nowadays. All due to being a versatile beverage, typically low in alcohol and can be enjoyed with just about any meal or on its own. These wines are usually made from red grapes and are very versatile that complement various kinds of food. Rosé just happens to be the perfect wine for sipping in the park or at a backyard barbecue. Rosé is deeper than white wine and lighter than red wine. It’s a wine that is dry by nature with a salmon-esque hue. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie even have their own have branded Rosé called Miraval which hails from France.

Start chanting.
