After Christmas and New Year’s Eve, one of the next big events on most calendars is Valentine’s Day on February 14th. And, like cooking Christmas dinner or hosting a killer New Year’s Eve party, Valentine’s Day comes with some big responsibility to get it right.

It’s the perfect time to think about a romantic getaway for two. Of course, it doesn’t need to be Valentine’s Day to enjoy these beautiful destinations, but it’s a good excuse to pack your bags, ignore your social media and indulge in some quality time together.

We know every couple is different, so we’ve hand-picked some varied romantic destinations. Whether your idea of the perfect couple’s vacation is conquering a mountain or barricading yourself in a cozy cabin with no cell phone service but ample comfort food, we’ve got you covered.

The All-Rounder: Savannah, Georgia

It’s hard to avoid the old cliché of “southern charm” when it comes to historic Savannah. Try as we might, there are few better ways to describe this picturesque and charming place. Think wide boulevards with moss-covered trees and Gone with The Wind-esque homes; it will be all you can do not to shout “frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn!” while sipping tea on a porch next to your love.

Savannah might be charming, but it’s not sleepy – the large student population gives the city youthful and fun energy. For a romantic all-around break, consider a date Savannah: taking a trolley tour, walking hand-in-hand through the beautiful parks and perhaps capping it off with more mac ‘n’ cheese than you can handle in a charismatic old restaurant.

Cozy/skiing: Finger Lakes, New York

You might want to layer up like a snow bunny if you’re traveling around Valentine’s since it sure gets cold in upstate New York, but the Finger Lakes region is a true winter wonderland. The chillier months are great for skiing, so if you want to cozy up in a charming mountain chalet by the fire, and then hit the slopes, it’s a great place to visit.

There are also many other great things to enjoy with or without snow. Year-round you can indulge in some day drinking at the many great wineries in the area (or breweries, if that’s more your style), or wander around the pretty streets of villages such as Corning.

Beach break: Apollo Bay, Florida

If you’re looking for a beach to whisk your love off in February, head down south to Florida. While parts of the north shiver in freezing temperatures, those in south Florida are still taking romantic strolls along the beach in shorts and a t-shirt.

We love beautiful Apollo Bay with its many attractions, including sunken gardens and the chance to spot cute manatees. However, it’s the Fort de Soto Park that’s the true jewel – with over six miles of stunning beaches as well as canoeing trails, there will be more than enough room for you two to cuddle up by the coast all through the year.

Outdoor adventure: Yosemite National Park, California

If your idea of the perfect snack is trail mix, your favorite shoes are hiking boots and conquering mountains is your romantic activity of choice, then consider Yosemite, the USA’s oldest national park, for a romantic break. Come to think of it, if that describes you then this amazing outdoor playground probably needs no introduction!

If you’re going around Valentine’s Day, you might need to pack some extra layers – but you’ll also get to enjoy plenty of fun winter sports like sledding and tubing. All year round, the hikes and views are amazing. You can even camp out with s’mores and all, or hike to the famous Yosemite Falls. Is there a better spot for a picturesque selfie?

So, whether you’re planning to whisk your love off for Valentine’s Day or just take a mid-year getaway, you’re sure to love these places for a romantic vacation for two!
